Platinum wellbeing accreditation for Elton Primary School

Elton Primary School in Bury, part of The Keep Learning Trust, is celebrating platinum accreditation by popular mental health and wellbeing in schools organisation, myHappymind.

Platinum is the highest level of accreditation the NHS-backed programme offers. The award recognises how the school has embedded the myHappymind curriculum into school life and is taking real action to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the school community.

The success comes just weeks after local Bury MP James Frith visited the school to observe and praise their work with myHappymind.

Carolyn Ashworth, Headteacher, said: “Our priority has always been to make sure that every child at Elton Primary School feels safe, happy and welcomed at school as this builds the right foundation for learning. We are all deeply passionate about supporting our pupils in understanding more about how they can support their own wellbeing and emotional resilience and the myHappymind programme helps us to do this in a really fun and engaging way.

“Happy children make better learners, and with the help of myHappymind the school has equipped pupils with skills and habits that enable them to succeed now and support their wellbeing throughout life.

“Staff well-being is of high importance too. Happy, supported teachers are better able to create positive, nurturing environments for pupils to learn and thrive. When schools prioritise staff mental health, it leads to improved morale, stronger relationships, and a more effective and resilient school community.”

The school supports pupil and staff wellbeing in a number of ways, including a calm space during breaktimes, weekly myHappymind lessons, physical ‘brain breaks’ during learning time to boost energy and concentration and teaching self-regulation methods such as ‘happy breathing’ to manage stress and support focus.

Children are also supported through adapted timetables when needed, to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Pupils learn about their brain, practise self-reflection, share feelings, and take part in interventions groups, focussing on building resilience, confidence, and strong emotional wellbeing skills.

The school plans to further embed the myHappymind curriculum next year with the help of new resources received as part of the award.

David Stephens, CEO at The Keep Learning Trust, added: “We look forward to witnessing Elton Primary continue their work to ensure every child feels confident, supported and ready to thrive. Well done everyone!”
